J.R.R. Tolkien's very suspect opinions and associations have been known about for a very long time, but there is a great reluctance to speak about it. The below is a much needed corrective.

In February 1968 J.R.R. Tolkien was interviewed in conjunction with the BBC television documentary "Tolkien in Oxford", of which also a part has been included in the J.R.R. Tolkien: An Audio Portrait. As far as I know this interview was only released last year for the Children of Hurin Release on April 7, 2007. Since then a small part of that interview could be found in the BBC News Archives, yet the interview is far from complete. I managed to locate some other parts of the same interview which were released by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on April 19, 2007. It also includes an interesting interview with Adam Tolkien, the grand-son of Tolkien on the Children of Hurin, conducted by Razia Iqbal from the BBC program Newsnight.

So here will follow two youtube videos and two transcripts; now let us hope sooner or later the complete interview shows up.

What is interesting to me is that here Tolkien talks openly about 'gods', 'god' and even 'divine paradise'... it is something strange to hear from someone who always claimed he detested allegory wherever he smelled it! It seems at the end of his life Tolkien spoke more openly about the catholic elements he used to construct his mythology. Another fascinating fact is that this interview was done almost 9 years before the Silmarillion was finally published, still it is clear he is talking about it. I'm not going to bother you any longer with my own ideas, hope you enjoy both parts of the interview:

J.R.R. Tolkien: Everybody, including divine spirits under god, makes mistakes in this mythology, and of course the gods made a primary error. Instead of leaving elves and men to find out their way under the guidance of god, they invited the elves because the rebel amongst them, the wicked god Melkor, was alive and devastated a large part of the world.
They took them back into their paradise in the west to protect them, and so the whole machinery starts from the rebellion of the elves, and therefore, in rebellion of the evil they did in their bursting out from paradise.
So what you've got in our period is two lots of elves: The ones that never started, just didn't want to, never bothered to be anything higher than they were, were the ordinary woodland elves of the far-east.
Those who started to go to divine paradise and never got there, which are the grey elves of the west, and those who got and came back as exiled.

The higher elves, who sing this song to Elbereth in the beginning of the Lord of the Rings, are exiled elves who had once known what it was to see the emerging gods in person.
Now dwarves create a difficulty, don't they, in this particular thing. They have certain grievances against men and against elves. They are incarnate in bodies. While they are like ourselves, we don't know much about them, but they apparently are mortal, they are longeval. Where do they come into the scheme? Well of course, a great deal of sort to provide their origin.
I don't think I'll say anything about it at the moment, but they have a rational origin related to their theme, but they are not part of the children of god. That's all I can really say about this.

Kerry O'Brien: The smash hit Peter Jackson Hollywood version of the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy helped make the work of the English author, J.R.R. Tolkien, accessible to a whole new generation of readers around the world.

It's now been followed by a quite extraordinary literary event - a new Tolkien book. Many years after the author's death, edited from his notes by his son Christopher. The BBC's Newsnight program was given access to the book and an interview with Tolkien himself, which has never been broadcast before.

Razia Iqbal: A plaintive lament from the epic movie trilogy 'The Lord of The Rings'.

There is though little to lament about the Tolkien brand. A staggering 150 million people have bought the books. Fifty million of those since the film trilogy wowed fans and critics alike.

J.R.R. Tolkien's classic work of fantasy started out in his mind as a book written for his children.

J.R.R. Tolkien: I read it to my children. I read to the two elder ones who took a kindly and, on the whole, favourable an interest in it. But they criticised very severely and first opened my eyes to the whole situation which led to my essay on fairy stories, criticised very severely all those things in which my, owing to bad models, I though was suitable to put into a children's story. They hated asides, anything like, 'so now I've told you enough.' They loathed anything that made it sound as if you were talking to a, an actual audience.

Razia Iqbal: The audience for Tolkien's books remains voracious and committed. And now some 50 years after the publication of the 'Lord of the Rings' the Tolkien literary estate have published a new work, 'The Children of Hurin'.

Tolkien began writing it in the trenches during the First World War. Parts of it, though, have been seen before.

Adam Tolkien: 'The Children of Hurin' hasn't been published as a stand alone tale and it's been published in works and also a long time ago before, among other things, before the films made Tolkien doubly, triply popular. And it's published in what are scholarly works and you can read the stories just for the stories, skipping the notes, but you're not going to get a simple start-to-finish story. And they're published with the name of very exact literary analysis, which means that if the story, it's one version of the story and if it's interrupted it stops there whereas 'The Children of Hurin', the new book, is worked together from all the author's words. But to become a stand alone story that can be read as such.

Razia Iqbal: However, fans of Bilbo Baggins may be in for a bit of a shock with 'The Children of Hurin'. It is a dark tale of incest and betrayal and one in which most of the protagonists kill themselves or each other.

Adam Tolkien: I think a bit too much is being made of the incest. That is, it's part of the tragedy of the story - that this brother and sister don't know that they're brother and sister. But it's, it is definitely a tragic tale.

But I don't know, I don't know what people will make of it. It takes place in a part of Middle Earth that doesn't exist anymore when 'Lord of the Rings' takes place, but it's very much Middle Earth, it's very much the same world. And it is, it's a more serious tale in a sense than the 'Lord of the Rings'.

Razia Iqbal: While 'The Hobbit' and the 'Lord of the Rings' remain the most popular of Tolkien's books, his more obscure works dealing with the ancient history of elves and men were to him all part of the same mythic tapestry.

J.R.R. Tolkien: There are in existence a very large collection, now a collection impractically written, but legends about the, the world of the past, particularly after the exiles came back and conducted their war against the devil in the north-western part of this, this world we live in. And the connection of the, of the men who joined in with them.

Adam Tolkien: We hope it will strike a chord in people who've discovered the stories of Middle Earth with the 'Lord of the Rings', but who don't really know about the other works or who've been, found them too difficult. And we, we think that this tale in particular, which was one tale that the author did work at enough so that we could produce a full length story, it's a beautiful tale in itself. And it may or may not strike a chord. People may think it doesn't have enough Hobbits in it, because there aren't any.

They can tell us much more then just letters or biographies, because by listening to someones voice you can hear how they react and feel better how they think about several subjects. Both J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis were initiated in the H.O.G.D. During a discussion about Tolkien and his work, this male witch commented that “The Hobbit” and the rest of the Middle-Earth series was merely an elementary ‘primer’ for witchcraft. He was even a bit irritated at the lack of background knowledge about Tolkien among the people gathered. Later he added C.S. Lewis to the conversation as another well known literary figure who was initiated in the H.O.G.D. If this is true or not is hard to say, but it is interesting and well worth looking further into. However, there are more indications that both Tolkien and Lewis had Golden Dawn connections. Charles Williams was a friend of Lewis and Tolkien and also a member of the H.O.G.D. Williams along with Tolkien and Lewis, were members of a close knit Oxford reading group known as “The Inklings.” This is almost certainly where Lewis arrived at his extra-biblical ideas concerning the Holy Grail and other mid-evil myths.

The Golden Dawn is one of most prolific and legendary of all Western secret and esoteric societies. Hundreds of people, from the rich and famous to the common man, have walked through its halls of the neophyte. Very few stood as tall in the history of the occult sciences as Arthur Edward Waite, the creator of the Rider Waite Tarot Deck.

The Hebrew Kabbalistic Tree of Life (studied in-depth by Masons) displays the Roman numerals IX-XI (9-11) when the tree has “fallen” or is shown on its side. And in the Tarot (also studied by Masons) there is much significance as well. The Major Arcana card “The Tower” shows a tall tower being struck by lightning, fire coming out the windows, and people falling to their deaths – all of which happened on 9/11, if the lightning is symbolically substituted by an airplane. In “The High Priestess” tarot card, Isis (the Statue of Liberty) is seen between the black and white Masonic pillars of Mercy and Severity, Boaz and Jachin (the Two Towers). The 13th “Death” tarot card also shows two towers with the sun between them.

In Freemasonry the two/three pillars are very important and well-known to every Mason. One of the largest Masonic websites is called “The Three Pillars.” They are depicted on the 1st degree tracing board and they are the 3 columns of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. The pillars of Solomon’s temple – Sol-Om-On three words all meaning “Sun” -relate to this as well (note: WTC 7 was the Salomon Brothers Building). The right pillar of Mercy is Male and the left pillar of Severity is Female. Between them is the third androgenous pillar of enlightenment and illumination. This is symbolically depicted in the Tarot Death card where the sun is rising between two towers/pillars. In Da Vinci’s Last Supper, the back wall with two windows can be viewed as three towers/pillars. On the right is a man pointing representing the phallic/masculine, on the left is a very effeminate John representing the feminine, and the sun/son Jesus is in the middle. In the movie Spider-Man there was a deleted-scene with the sun rising between the Twin Towers symbolizing this as well.

After the 9-11 terror attack, in early 2002, when DARPA's proposed IAO (Information Awareness Office) hit the news, not a few commentators called the proposal "Orwellian" and compared the proposed digital all-seeing eye, as signified by the death ray logo, with the lidless eye of the Dark Lord Sauron, as depicted in Tolkien's famous trilogy Lord of the Rings. In fact, public clamor over the logo got so bat that DARPA retracted the eery signal. At any rate, the publicly promulgated reason forDARPA's retraction of the short-lived logo was widespread criticism and controversy.
For example, William F. Jasper, writing for the John Birch Society's magazine, The New American, wrote: "Contemplating the full implications of the IAO's lust for omniscience and omnipotence ("Knowledge is Power," recall), a more appropriate symbol for the agency's logo might be the fiery, lidless, all-seeing eye of the Dark Lord Sauron, the satanic sorceror of the current blockbuster movie trilogy The Lord of the Rings. Sauron's unsleeping eye 'Sees all, pierces all, knows all,' says Suruman, Sauron's evil underling. That, after all, would seem to be the stated purpose of Adm. Poindexter's project." (William F. Jasper,TNA, January 27, 2003) Well said, that, but trouble is, the betrayal and deception evidently go much deeper than Mr. Jasper knows or wishes to acknowledge. Contrary to what Jasper and Safire of the New York Times suggested, admiral Poindexter was not the mastermind or main mufti behind the plan, even if he was a much easier target, fall guy, and scapegoat. As briefly outlined in "TROLL Cams: The All-Seeing Eyes of GOG", plans to implement a seamless internet-based surveillance system evidently existed long before Poindexter's appointment in January, 2002. As the title of that article alluded, there is some evidence that the IAO project may have been guided behind the scences by the All-Seeing eye of Judeo-Freemasonry. So it wasn't exactly "Poindexter's project", as Jasper of TNA, or Safire of the NYT, would have us suppose.
[Later, this was confirmed when DARPA's TIA (Total Information Awareness) system's SSD (System Description Document), version 1.1, of July 2002, became public and was posted on the Internet by EPIC. Presently, this document is athttp://epic.org/primacy/profiling/tia/tiasystemdescriptiondocument.pdf . In Appendix A of that document, each page of which bore the IAO logo with the all-seeing eye, we read that the first draft of the TIA SSD was issued in May of 2001. So, many months prior to 9-11 and prior to Poindexter's January 2002 appointment as head of the IAO (Information Awareness Office) -- and probably much earlier -- the basic blueprint for TIA was already in the works, and while it's true that Poindexter worked for SYNTEK from 1996 to 2002, in which capacity he was presumably involved in the design and deployment of certain aspects of TIA, e.g., Project Genoa, it's also true that other components of the TIA system, as defined by the TIA SSD, were being developed prior to Poindexter's (1996 to 2002) stay at SYNTEK. For example, the FACE-IT face scan software, developed by Visionics (now called Identix), evolved as part of a DoD project called FERET, initiated in 1993 and completed in 1998. According to the TIA SSD posted by EPIC, the Face-It software was one component of the TIA project. As a friend of mine pointed out in 2001, the logo of Visionics at that time included the all-seeing eye, as pictured here, and bore an eery resemblance to the oval all-seeing eye inside the inverted triangle, as seen, for example, on Freemason "whore house" Harry S. "give em hell" Truman's Masonic apron.]
It was interesting how Peter Jackson's movie trilogy, which was fantastically faithful to Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, hit the movie theaters just after revelations about IAO had hit the news. Those of a conspiratorial mindset might even call it strangely suspicious. But one man's conspiracy is another man's crusade, so for every conspiracy or crusade, there's often a counter-conspiracy, or counter-crusade, and Tolkien, a devout Roman Catholic, arguably launched what might be construed as one the of the most prescient campaigns to counter the Occult Conspiracy in the history of the world. His crusade took the form of several fictional, now-famous books, Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, which were taken up defiantly like pitch forks by ordinary people everywhere. Despite deprecations and derision dished down on Tolkien's work by the intellectual elite, Tolkien's trilogy triumphed, spreading like anti-biotic in an epidemic of esotericism and elitism. [ Although Tolkien himself has been accused of belonging ot the Illuminati, that accusation is grounded, I'd guess, not on fact but opon the boasts of the Illuminati, who would take credit for the sun rising if they could get away with it, and so, to persuade their underlings of their all-reaching powers, they attribute Tolkien's far-seeing prognistications and prescriptions to themselves. John Todd, from whence this accusation was made known to me, likely fell for the lie and communicated it to others, or possibly he simply made it up himself. In any case, after reading Tolkien's letters, it seems improbable to me that he was anything but a devout Catholic. Certain among the Protestants, eager to think ill of anything Catholic, spread the rumour and ignore contrary evidence.]

History now records how Peter Jackson took J.R.R. Tolkien's trilogy and made it into a film trilogy that made Star Wars seem less-than stellar; ironically, it seemed to demonstrate that Hobbits, with the help of angels, can beat Suruman and Darth Vader at their own game. The technical wizardry of Jackson's film rendition of Tolkien's trilogy made Speilberg's Star Wars wizardry seem outdated and tired and Tolkien's trilogy seem timeless and new. It's ironic how Star Wars seemed as if it came from the Middle-Ages of cinamatography while Tolkien's Middle Earth seemed space-age. Arguably, the two films, Lord of the Rings andStar Wars, represent two incommensurable worldviews: namely, the Christian or Catholic view, as set forth in the Gospels and advocated by Tolkien, versus the occult or Judaic view, as set forth in the Kabbalah and advanced in Speilberg's blockbuster Star Wars. This work is dedicated to deliniating the these two worldviews, one of which is a force for good, the other of which is a force for evil. People disagree about which is evil, and I confess that I myself have been lost in the fog of this war, dazed and confused, a casualty of sorts. But in Tolkien's world, the distinction between the two is crystal clear, which is one reason, among others, that his trilogy was greeted with scorn by the bright-lights in the Tower of Babel, who often treated Tolkien with distain, as though the philosophical felony and aesthetic attrocity of making things clear in an unclear world was beyond the palor of proper pedantry. A blockbuster for blockheads, some seemed to say. Sinister for being simplistic, some seemed to suggest.
At about the same time as Tolkien labored on his masterful trilogy, George Orwell, formerly a member of the Qabbalistic and fringe-Masonic magical fraternity, the Golden Dawn, which, according to Springmeier, was the personal coven of the English branch of the Rothschild dynasty, arguably prepared to launch his own broadsides against the Titanic of Tyranny; namely, 1984 and Animal Farm. Orwell, disillusioned and alienated from the corpus anti-Christi of the occult Brotherhood, allegedly wrote 1984 to warn the world about the diabolical plans of his former occult overlords, including his initiator, Aleister Crowley, or so claimed John Daniel, author of "Scarlet and the Beast", at any rate. Both Tolkien and Orwell were well aware, evidently, of the fact that the conspiracy was real, deadly, diabolical, and devoted, at least in the uppermost ranks, to Dark Arts, and yet, the Conspiracy was so unbelievable that, ironically, it could only be believably portrayed in fictional form, which may explain in part why neither Tolkien nor Orwell spell things out, so to say, but often communicate to the unconscious mind what the conscious mind of many might reject with incredulity or horror. If either Orwell or Tolkien had made explicit what their fiction implicitly conveys, both would be rejected outright as crackpot nutjob conspiracy theorists. Who in their age or ours truly believe in demons or the power of conjuring demons? Only the people, evidently, who control the world, or nearly do -- much like the Dark Lord Sauron who seeks Total Information Awareness, or complete control, the power of the One Ring that rules them all. So, perhaps to avoid provoking incredulous laughter or howls of derision, or to make their fiction real, they chose to disclose in fictional form what fiction claims not to be; namely, real history.
[Claims are made that Orwell's book, like Tolkien's trilogy, was a "propaganda coup" for the Illuminati, one that would serve not to galvanize oppostion to the Illuminati blueprint but rather to dishearten any resistence. That may be so. How would we know Orwell's true intent, unless we could not only read minds but transverse time to do so? On the other hand, it can hardly be stressed strongly enough that the Illuminati, or Judeo-Freemasonry, as it's more revealingly called, would take credit for the sun rising if they could get away with it.]

One might reasonably infer, given Tolkien's depiction of the all-seeing eye of Sauron, whom he casts as a necromancer and practioner of black magic, that Tolkien was well aware of the real power behind the technocratic tyrannies of the 20th century. One might also guess, not without plausibility, that as a well-educated Roman Catholic, Tolkien was aware of what Pope Pius IX called "the synagogue of Satan"; namely, corporate Freemasonry, or what is more revealingly called Judeo-Freemasonry. Yet nowhere in the index of The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien do we find any reference to secret societes, Freemasonry, or the All-Seeing Eye or the like. Yet if, not content to peruse the index, we read Tolkien's letters, we would find that he mentions secret societies on several occasions and well knew their import. Even so, although much mention is made of the Ring(s) of power, he makes no mention of the Eye of Sauron or Freemasonry in his letters. This might give us pause to reconsider reading too much into the Eye as a symbol of secret societes or sorcery or satanism, yet the trilogy itself gives us ample evidence that Tolkien understood not only the organizations behind the Satanic conspiracy, but also, and much more importantly, the spiritual forces and laws surrounding them, which, like the winds engulfing the eye of a hurricane, create the Eye of a perfect storm. The Eye is nothing without the wind, so Tolkien speaks of the wind, i.e., the spiritual force whose expression the Eye is. The eery calm in the Eye of a storm is neither the lull before the storm, nor the calm after it, but the heart of the storm itself, and the person who mistakes the peace inside for peace thereafter is doomed. For what price, peace? What is the stillness in the Eye but the vortex of ferocious winds that wreck the world? What is the stability of the Satanic sorceror, who conjures in the Eye of the Triangle, but the solidity of a snake that slithers slyly on its belly, and lacking legs, never falls from grace or stumbles on the way away from evil-the only path which leads, in the end, after many storms, many falls, to real and lasting peace?
Tolkien, in any case, described himself as a historian of sorts, and his trilogy was essentially historical, he tells us, yet non-allegorical--a history outside of time, we might say, at least in the sense that it refers to no specific time in history but to history whole.

The subliminal meaning of the recent mass media push to rosy the tarnished image of the so called "Eye of Divine Providence", more popularly known as the "All-Seeing Eye", can hardly be missed, unless one's eyes are wide-shut. The message is simple, clear, unequivocal: the All-Seeing Eye is a "national treasure".

realities refered to are superhistorical, or supernatural, so that That is, we would be mistaken if we were to drawn an analogy, say, between, Sauron and Stalin, or Sauron's all-seeing Eye and the All-Seeing Eye of Freemasonry, because, although there is nothing in his trilogy, wrote Tolkien, which doesn't point to something that exists, the Stalin is but one instance, for example, of the dark forces that coalesce to create tyranny, and to confuse or compare him with those forces is to conflate the consequence with the great causes that dwarf any particular puny concrete consequent. Even so, this is not to say that Stalin does not represent, in the abstract, so to speak, what is the essence or meaning of tyranny. If this analysis is right, the symbol of the all-seeing eye signifies not Freemasonry so much, nor secret societies as such, but rather the spiritual power of which the All-Seeing Eye of Freemasonry is but one among many manifestations in the material world.
What's more, although Tolkien's trilogy refers to superhistorical and supernatural existents and events existing or occuring outside of time, or rather, timeless events, historcially speaking, albiet not eternally speaking, Tolkien also suggests, or at least he entertains the suggestion, that events as he described them did in fact occur, more or less exactly as depicted, at some time in the distant and forgotten reaches of history, either in some lost or unknown world, or perhaps in this world. Yet if this is so--and he certainly doesn't insist on it--it's being so, or not being so, does nothing to discount the reality of the supernatural existents or events to which the story alludes non-allegorically. The comparisons are non-allegorical because there is nothing in the perceptible world, or in known history, that we can point to and say that this or that is what he meant or was refering to when he wrote about this or that character or event in his books. Tolkien, like many great writers and artists, felt at times that he was an instrument, a vessal, through which beings of another dimension, i.e., in his case, Heavenly angelic beings, communicated. But this is not something he knew, pretended to know, or insisted upon, and if such was the case, it presumably occured not through any promptings or invocations of his own but as something beyond his volitional control or conscious awareness, in which case, he cannot be justly charged with any occult or nefarious practice.

Publicity flared to its maximum coverage when it was announced, in the summer of 1965, that Pope Paul would visit New York later that year in order to address the United Nations Assembly. It was heralded as an event of the utmost importance that would surely bring results that could not be lost upon the world; but there was also some speculation as to why non-Catholic, and even antiCatholic quarters, were giving rise to much the same bursts of excitement that had marked the election of John XXIII.

Could it be that the same power was pulling wires, behind the scenes, to influence the tone of the Press, radio, and television? We have already assessed, to some extent, the character and the leanings of Paul VI. Let us now glance at the formation and the make-up of the United Nations.

It was primarily Communist in tone, its charter, signed in 1943, being based upon the Constitution of Soviet Russia, while its purpose and principles were decided at a conference of Foreign Ministers held in Moscow.

The secretaries of the United Nations’ Security Council, between the years 1946 and 1962, were Arkady Sobelov and Eugeny Kiselev, both Communists. A leading figure of the United Nations’ Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was Vladimir Mailmovsky, Communist. The chief secretary for UNESCO was Madame Jegalova, Communist; while the President, Vice-President, and nine judges of the ‘World Court’ were all Communists.

Yet these were typical of the people on whom Paul VI lavished praise, and to whom he looked for the salvation of the world; while the Press and radio, subject to the same international control as the United Nations, continues to speak of that body as being worthy of respect.

Posing as strictly neutral, and with the declared intention of promoting world peace, it soon showed a definite bias in favour of Communist-inspired guerrilla movements whose object, in several parts of the world, was the overthrow of established governments. This was done under the guise of liberating people from oppression; but the ultimate design of the Assembly, then as now, was to set up a totalitarian system in which national sovereignty and cultures would disappear.

Incidental to this, as was made plain by the secondary social and economic organisations that sprang from the Assembly, would be a virtual censorship whose voice was predominantly atheist. For it had been noted that the more orthodox countries such as Italy, Austria, Spain, Portugal, and Ireland, were excluded from the Assembly’s original foundation; whereas Bolshevist Russia, from its permanent seat on the Security Council, possessed a veto that could reduce the decisions of the Assembly to a mere expression of words, without effect; a judgment that may fairly be passed on all the deliberations of the United Nations from the day of its founding to the present.

More concrete evidence for these strictures may be adduced when we look at the record of a professional criminal who came to occupy a leading place, by way of the United Nations, in European life. He was Meyer Genoch Moisevitch Vallakh, or Wallach, who, before the 1914 war, emerged from the stormy background of Russian political life as a ‘wanted’ figure who found it safer, and more rewarding, to extend his activities to countries that were, so far, less disturbed.

Working under a variety of names, including Buchmann, Maxim Harryson, Ludwig Nietz, David Mordecai, and Finkelstein, he came into the limelight in Paris in 1908, when he took a hand in robbing the Tiflis Bank of two hundred and fifty thousand roubles. He was deported, but soon afterwards was in trouble again for dealing in stolen banknotes.

His chance came in 1917, when the Russian Revolution brought him and his kind to the surface. Now, under the respectable pseudonym of Maxim Litvinoff, he became Soviet Commissioner for Foreign Affairs. His next step was to the Presidency of the Council of the League of Nations. He then arrived in London as Soviet ambassador to the Court of St. James, and as such became a familiar and influential figure in royal and diplomatic circles.

As further evidence of the downward slide in our public and political affairs, it may be noted that the first Secretary-General of the United Nations was Alger Hiss, who had been convicted of perjury in the American courts. He took a prominent part in shaping the United Nations’ Charter on Russian-Communist lines.

These considerations, however, did not weigh heavily with the faithful, who thought that the Pope’s address and appearance, before a world audience, would be a golden opportunity for the advancement of Papal teaching. It would burst upon the doubting and insecure world with a certainty that it had never before experienced. Many listeners, for the first time in their lives, would be brought face to face with the reality of religion. It was only the Church that had anything really important to say, that could add spiritual significance to the routine of daily life.

Some half-a-century before, Pius X had issued directions and indicated guide-lines that were everywhere and at all times relevant. But his audience had been as necessarily limited as his means to make himself heard. Now it was for Pope Paul to echo the words of his predecessor, but this time to an almost universal congregation that could be reached through the medium of the United Nations.

Pius had said: ‘There is no need for me to point out that the advent of world democracy can have no relevancy to the work of the Church in the world .... the reform of civilisation is essentially a religious task, for true civilisation presupposes a moral foundation, and there can be no morally based foundation without true religion .... this is a truth which can be demonstrated from the evidence of history.’

But Pope Paul had no intention of endorsing what Pius had said. For instead of a religious leader speaking on October 4th, 1965, it might have been a disciple of Jean Jacques Rousseau holding forth on the deification of human nature that, finding expression in the declaration of the Rights of Man on August 12th, 1789, ushered in the French Revolution.

The Rights of Man, that were enthusiastically defined as being vested in Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, led to the Cult of Man and man’s elevation in place of God; from which it followed that all religious forms, and institutions such as rulership, family life, and the holding of private property, were denigrated as being parts of the old order that was on the point of passing.

When the effects of the Second Vatican Council became apparent, Doctor Rudolf Gruber, Bishop of Regensburg, was led to observe that the main ideas of the French Revolution, ‘which represents an important element in Lucifer’s plan’, were being adopted in many spheres of Catholicism. And Pope Paul, speaking direct to a battery of microphones that carried to the world, gave ample evidence of this.

He made no reference to spiritual claims or the importance of religion. ‘Behold the day we have awaited for centuries.... This is the ideal that mankind has dreamt of in its journey through history.... We would venture to call it the world’s greatest hope.... It is your task here’, he told the members of the Assembly, ‘to proclaim the basic rights and duties of Man.... We are conscious that you are the interpreters of all that is permanent in human wisdom; we could almost say of its sacred character.’

Man had now come of age, and was qualified to live by a philosophic morality that, owing nothing to authority, was created by himself. The United Nations, destined to play the leading role in the world, was ‘the last hope of mankind’. So it was to secular structures that man must look for the stability and redemption of humanity; in a word, to himself; sentiments that would not have been out of place in the committee rooms of the French Revolution; sentiments that no one would have thought to hear expressed by a Pope, void as they were of any reference to the claims and traditional message of the Church.

That this was understood and appreciated was shown by the reception accorded him at the close of his address, by those of a certain political persuasion who made up by far the greater part of his live audience. He was surrounded by back-slapping and handshaking representatives of Russia, China, and the Soviet satellite States. He arranged for further meetings, which proved to be four in all, with the Soviet Foreign Minister Gromyko (real name Katz), and his wife. There were congratulations from Nikolai Podgorny, member of the Politburo, and warm exchanges with Arthur Goldberg, a prominent member of the Communist Party.

Pope Paul had opened up the world of religion to its old and inveterate enemies, the champions of social reform who denied revelation. ‘Dialogue’ was now much in fashion, and the prospect of Moscow and the Vatican entering into talks was taken for granted. The world’s leading churchman had propagated the social gospel, so dear to the heart of revolutionaries, without a single reference to the religious doctrines that they found pernicious. Differences between the two sides were not so deep-seated and final as had once been thought. The Pope, and those who clustered about him sometimes with two-handed clasps, could henceforth be allies.

It now remained to round off a truly historic visit with an initiatory rite that would put the seal on this newly admitted realisation.

‘Behold, thy King is coming to thee, humbly riding on an ass.’ So wrote St. Matthew (21.5) on Christ’s entry into Jerusalem.

But it was not thus that Christ’s representative rode along Broadway. Pope Paul travelled in a seven-passenger Lincoln convertible, through a forest of flags and bunting, with a police escort on motor cycles, and thousands more police lining the way and restraining crowds that were uncertain whether to stand, kneel, or bow their heads in expectation of a blessing, and whether to wave or raise an arm in salute; with two spotter helicopters buzzing and circling overhead, sirens blowing, and on nearly every building fluorescent lighting that unnecessarily vied with the daylight, and the United Nations’ Plaza Building spelling out ‘welcome, Pope Paul VI’.

This followed upon a question that Cardinal Vagnozzi, the Apostolic-delegate in New York, put to Pope Paul. What was to be the next goal of his visit?

The Meditation Room in the United Nations’ building, Paul told him.

The Cardinal was surprised, shocked. He had good reason for affirming that the Holy Father couldn’t go there.

But he went.

The room, with two others of its kind, one at Wainwright House, Stuyvesant Avenue, Rye, New York, and the other in the United States Capitol, represented the early stage of a scheme the fulfilment of which would be marked (in concrete form) by the erection of what was called the Temple of Understanding, on fifty acres of ground along the banks of the Potomac in Washington, D.C.

It was part of a design to form one inter-religious world body on the part of a certain Mrs. Judith Dickerman Hollister, who revealed an anti-traditional, pro-mysterious bias by becoming a Shinto. As such, she believed the Japanese myth that two divine universal parents descended upon an island that was made of drops of salt. There the god-mother gave birth to other islands, with mountains and rivers, and finally to a whole galaxy of gods. After that astonishing feat the lady withdrew from her sea-girt home and was seen no more.

Thus armed with an air of mystery, a suggestion of interior enlightenment, and an eccentric bearing, Mrs. Hollister found an enthusiastic supporter in the President’s wife, Eleanor Roosevelt, whom some of her intimates rated as being somewhat below the mentally normal.

From that it needed but a step to secure the backing of the United States Government, while John D. Rockefeller, and several of his associates in the Communist front that he founded, contributed to what was called the Spiritual United Nations. Another pro-Communist millionaire, Marshall Field, who has already been noted as a patron of the anarchist Saul David Alinsky, helped to pay for the decoration of the room. The Ford Foundation also gave financial encouragement.

A carefully edited bulletin, that supposedly dealt with the meaning and purpose of the room, was produced by the Lucis Press, which issues printed matter for the United Nations. The suspicious may find food for thought in the fact that this publishing company, when it started in the early part of this century, was known as the Lucifer Press. It now functions at 3 Whitehall Court, London, S.W.1.

That title might well have been retained when dealing with Mrs. Hollister’s creation, for the room (and this explains the shock felt by Cardinal Vagnozzi) was a centre of the Illuminati, given over to the cult of the all-seeing Eye that under a system of allegories and veiled secrets, as translated by the Masters of Wisdom, was dedicated to the service of pagan cults; and the obliteration of Christian in favour of humanistic beliefs.

Two doors, each fitted with tinted glass panels, lead into the room. A guard stands outside, and another is stationed just inside the door. The entrant encounters semi-darkness, and a quiet into which one’s footsteps are absorbed by a thick blue rug on the floor. An arched inner way, still overhung by a sense of night-like stillness, opens out into a space some thirty feet long, wedge-shaped, windowless, and with a solitary yellow light, apparently beamed from nowhere, shimmering on the surface of an altar that stands in the centre, a waist-high block of crystalline iron ore that is known to weigh between six and seven tons.

Blue rugs are spread over the floor, that is elsewhere paved with blue-grey lengths of slate. At the far end of the room, where the dimness melts into total shadow, there is a low railing beyond which only the privileged are allowed to pass.

The fresco-mural, more than eight feet high and some two feet smaller in width, is played upon by a light directed from the top. Framed in a steel panel, it appears to be an apparently meaningless cluster of blue, grey, white, brown, and yellow geometrical designs. But to those versed in esoteric understanding the crescents and triangles present a definite form that takes shape, in the centre and outer circle of the mural, as the Illuminati Eye.

Main attention is not, however, focused upon the mural but on the altar, that is dedicated to ‘the faceless one’, and from which an air of brooding mystery, prevalent in the room, appears to radiate. And as one’s senses respond, it is realised that other shaded lights, concealed in a suspended ceiling that matches the size of the room, add to the sombre impression conveyed by the altar beam.

Pope Paul, at the end of his mission, was presented with a model of the then prospective Temple of Understanding. The Masters extended a similar welcome to Cardinal Suenens, who later visited the Meditation Room; and in return representatives of the Temple were received at the Vatican.

The underlying purpose of the Temple was plainly revealed by its plan, with the all-seeing Eye, faceted like a diamond in the central dome of the building, reflecting the rays of the sun through wings that represented six world faiths – Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Confucianism, and Christianity.

The same symbolism figured at a banquet attended by some five hundred supporters of syncretism at the Waldorf Astor, where a little scene was enacted when a child, holding aloft the model of an egg, was presented to the president of the Temple, the same Mrs. Dickerman Hollister. She tapped the egg with a wand, and the shell dropped away to reveal a tree with six golden branches.

Before leaving America Pope Paul, to press home his voluntary renunciation of spiritual authority, made a show of divesting himself of the Church’s reminders and insignia. He gave the Papal ring of diamonds and rubies, and his pectoral cross of diamonds and emeralds – the two containing four hundred and four diamonds, one hundred and forty-five emeralds, and twenty rubies – to the Buddhist U Thant, then Secretary-General of the United Nations.

A jeweller had estimated that the jewels alone, apart from their traditional value, were worth more than a hundred thousand dollars. They were swept up at an auction for sixty-four thousand dollars, after which the successful buyer sold them to a Mr. David Morton of Orono, Minnesota. Some items of this Papal jewellery were next seen decking the person of a female performer who appeared in the ‘Carson television night-show’.

The ring and the cross continued to go the round of dealers, auction rooms, and superior junk shops, and were last heard of among the articles offered for sale at a market in Geneva.

This abnegation followed Pope Paul’s public show of giving up the tiara, the triple crown that denotes the Trinity, the authority, and the spiritual powers of the Church. The crown was presented to a Pope at the time of his coronation with the words: ‘Receive this tiara adorned with three crowns and know that you are the father of princes and of kings, guide of the world, and Vicar upon earth of Jesus Christ.’

Pope Paul let it be known that he was giving up the crown for the benefit of the poor of the world, a motive that was played up by the Press and that ‘went down well’ with the public. But he was giving up something that had never been his in the first place, and so was not transferable. Moreover, one word from him would have caused all the world-wide missions and charitable organisations of the Church to open their purses for the poor. But instead, he made a theatrical gesture by discarding external signs of religious dignity which, as he and his kind well knew, was a minor step that, added to others of its kind, was part of the process of sapping the Church’s internal significance.

He also made use of a sinister symbol, used by Satanists in the sixth century, that had been revived at the time of Vatican Two. This was a bent or broken cross on which was displayed a repulsive and distorted figure of Christ, which the black magicians and sorcerers of the Middle Ages had made use of to represent the Biblical term, ‘Mark of the Beast’.

Yet not only Paul VI but his successors, the two John-Pauls, carried that object and held it up to be revered by crowds who had not the slightest idea that it stood for anti-Christ. Furthermore, this exhibition of a desiccated figure on a twisted stick was forbidden by Canon 1279, which condemned the usage of any sacred image that is not in keeping with the approved usage of the Church. That it was used for occult purposes may be seen in woodcuts shown in the Museum of Witchcraft in Bayonne, France.

Another disquieting feature of Pope Paul’s visit to the United States was his appearance, at the Yankee Stadium in New York, wearing the Ephod, the ancient garment with breastplate of twelve stones, representing the twelve sons of Jacob, as worn by Caiphas, the High Priest of the Sanhedrin, who called for the crucifixion of Christ.

As though not content with that quite unnecessary innovation, His Holiness continued to wear that non-Christian symbol on other occasions, including the Way of the Cross procession in Rome on March the 27th, 1964; at a ceremony in the Place d’Espagne, Rome, on December the 8th, 1964; the visit of Doctor Ramsay, Archbishop of Canterbury, to the Vatican in 1966; at a reception of parish priests in the Sistine Chapel; and at Castelgandolfo in the summer of 1970.

The tone of Pope Paul’s address to the United Nations had given no little encouragement to the progressives, or Left-wing element, within the Church. For within a few days of Paul’s return to Rome the Bishop of Cuernavaca, Mendes Arceo, was declaring that ‘Marxism is necessary in order to realise God’s kingdom at the present time’; while Pope Paul let it be known that Rome, in order to end an old enmity, was ready to take a new look at secret societies.

As part of that process, Monsignor Pezeril was entrusted with the task of negotiating with a governing body of those societies with a view to establishing friendly contact.

The retentive powers of those who write for the papers, like the memories of those who seriously regard them, are proverbially short. Yet because the Pope’s speech in New York was well in keeping with the prevailing trend, it is not surprising to find that the cue he had given there was taken up, some time later, by the Vatican journal L’Osservatore Romano, which let it be known that the Church’s traditional message had yielded place to a more unorthodox concept, by announcing:

‘There are no true riches but Man.’

The two interlaced triangles explain Lantoine’s remarks that Satan is an equal and indispensable part of God, as seen when the picture is reversed. Simply translated, the motto means: ‘What is above equals what is below.’ It reveals a common occult idea that God is both good and evil, and that Satan is part of him.
